Ahead of their fight, Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero appeared in front of each other for their weigh-in. The two have been going at each other for years, and the weigh-in saw those tensions rise when Davis pushed Romero off the stage. Since then, the fighters faced off against each other, and Davis got the best of Romero in the 6th round.
Many pointed out that Romero utilized dirty tactics with his elbows but only received warnings. The sixth round found Romero trying to lean into throwing heavier punches at Davis. However, while on the ropes, Davis saw an opening and threw a hard left hand that connected after Romero threw a couple of wild punches. The hit from Davis sent Romero sliding into the ropes before hitting the canvas.
From there, Romero was able to beat the count from the referee, but the fight was called once Romero stood up and appeared to be visibly shaken by the shot. While speaking about the punch after the fight, Davis said, “The crazy thing is I didn’t even throw that hard.” Overall, Davis landed 25 punches in total in comparison to Romero’s 22.
