An 18-year-old Morgan State University student was shot in the chest on campus during homecoming weekend.
City police said officers were called around 6:39 p.m. Saturday for a shooting in the 2300 block of Argonne Drive. There was a large presence in the area for tailgating and other homecoming festivities.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he is conscious, alert and stable, police said.
The university tweeted a statement around 9 p.m., saying: “At approximately 7 p.m. this evening, a shooting occurred at Morgan State University near the Montebello Complex on south campus. A Morgan student was reported injured with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to a local hospital for immediate treatment.
“The area around Montebello Complex is secure and there is no active threat to the campus. We encourage the campus community to stay clear of the area at this time as police activity is ongoing.
“Baltimore Police Department (BPD) is presently on site actively investigating the incident with assistance from Morgan State Police.
“As further details develop and more information becomes available, we will provide updates via MSU ALERT, MSU Announce and social media.
“The University Counseling Center is available to any student in need of counseling and support by calling 800-422-0009 or 443-885-3130.”
